"He excused himself for a nap, and this day blended into his dreams like like years blended into a life, unseen but still felt, the line between memory and present always bleeding."
"Dear music,Iโm writing you this letter to thank you. Thank you for when youโre here, you catalyse my imagination. Thank you for this ineffable thing you bring, which makes the experience of writing so much better. Thank you for making real and palpable what is not. Thank you for being generous. Humans rarely are. You give breath to my characters. Moreover you give a mainspring to my tears, my laughs and my heart-bleedings. Actually, you give a purpose to Life, even if itโs just the one I created in my head, in the deepest abyss of my fantasies. Thank you for not judging me for that, by the way. Thank you because you make me wanna love. Life, people, natureโฆ Everything. I can even say that sometimes, you make me fall in love of my own protagonists, my own scenes, my own jokesโฆ I sound mad, I know, but believe me, Iโm not. Well, not completely. Thank you for allowing me to travel without spending a cent. Thatโs pretty cool of you. Iโve even been in places never visited. Places only you and I will ever know. Thank you for your loyalty. I know I can rely on you every time, in every places. If I could live forever, Iโd stay with you for a thousand year at least, until my dreams, as crazy and odd as they may be, became more authentic than my own reality. โCause you know, reality sucks. Love, a girl who really likes you"
"There's wall of agony between dreams and reality."
"Last year I had a very unusual experience. I was awake, with my eyes closed, when I had a dream. It was a small dream about time. I was dead, I guess, in deep black space high up among many white stars. My own consciousness had been disclosed to me, and I was happy. Then I saw far below me a long, curved band of color. As I came closer, I saw that it stretched endlessly in either direction, and I understood that I was seeing all the time of the planet where I had lived. It looked like a womanโs tweed scarf; the longer I studied any one spot, the more dots of color I saw. There was no end to the deepness and variety of the dots. At length, I started to look for my time, but, although more and more specks of color and deeper and more intricate textures appeared in the fabric, I couldnโt find my time, or any time at all that I recognized as being near my time. I couldnโt make out so much as a pyramid. Yet as I looked at the band of time, all the individual people, I understood with special clarity, were living at the very moment with great emotion, in intricate detail, in their individual times and places, and they were dying and being replaced by ever more people, one by one, like stitches in which whole worlds of feeling and energy were wrapped, in a never-ending cloth. I remembered suddenly the color and texture of our life as we knew it- these things had been utterly forgotten- and I thought as I searched for it on the limitless band, โthat was a good time then, a good time to be living.โAnd I began to remember our time. I recalled green fields with carrots growing, one by one, in slender rows. Men and women in bright vests and scarves came and pulled the carrots out of the soil and carried them in baskets to shaded kitchens, where they scrubbed them with yellow brushes under running waterโฆI saw may apples in forest, erupting through leaf-strewn paths. Cells on the root hairs of sycamores split and divided and apples grew striped and spotted in the fall. Mountains kept their cool caves, and squirrels raced home to their nests through sunlight and shade. I remembered the ocean, and I seemed to be in the ocean myself, swimming over orange crabs that looked like coral, or off the deep Atlantic banks where whitefish school. Or again I saw the tops of poplars, and the whole sky brushed with clouds in pallid streaks, under which wilds ducks flew, and called, one by one, and flew on. All these things I saw. Scenes grew in depth and sunlit detail before my eyes, and were replaced by ever more scenes, as I remembered the life of my time with increasing feeling. At last I saw the earth as a globe in space, and I recalled the oceanโs shape and the form of continents, saying to myself with surprise as I looked at the planet, โYes, thatโs how it was then, that part there we called โFranceโโ. I was filled with the deep affection of nostalgia- and then I opened my eyes."
"Yet 'Reality' is just whatever illusion we believe in"
"And for all I can tell, the only difference is that what many see we call a real thing, and what only one sees we call a dream. But things that many see may have no taste or moment in them at all, and things that are shown only to one may be spears and water-spouts of truth from the very depth of truth."
"Yet the stupid believe they are awake, busily and brightly assuming they understand things, calling this man ruler, that one herdsman โ how dense! Confucius and you are both dreaming! And when I say you are dreaming, I am dreaming, too. Words like these will be labeled the Supreme Swindle."

"I was reminded of a painter friend who had started her career by depicting scenes from life, mainly deserted rooms, abandoned houses and discarded photographs of women. Gradually, her work became more abstract, and in her last exhibition, her paintings were splashes of rebellious color, like the two in my living room, dark patches with little droplets of blue. I asked about her progress from modern realism to abstraction. Reality has become so intolerable, she said, so bleak, that all I can paint now are the colors of my dreams."
"I have always considered imaginative truth to be more profound, more loaded with significance, than every day reality... Everything we dream about, and by that I mean everything we desire, is true (the myth of Icarus came before aviation, and if Ader or Bleriot started flying it is because all men have dreamed of flight). There is nothing truer than myth... Reality does not have to be: it is simply what is."
"Dreams are what guide us, art is what defines us, math is what makes it all possible, and love is what lights our way."
"Dreamers must dream on as long as the nightmare wakes them upto greet with a bucketful of reality"
"Dreams are manifestation of the reality."
"Why is it that when you awake to the world of realities you nearly always feel, sometimes very vividly, that the vanished dream has carried with it some enigma which you have failed to solve?"
